VVOB-URCE graduates

The programme aims at equipping educational leaders with leadership competences that can contribute to school improvement and learners’ outcomes. Educational leaders are given opportunity to explore their roles in setting strategic direction for the school, leading teaching and learning, managing the school as a learning organization and how to involve parents and the school wider community in school leadership.

1. Module 1: Creating a strategic direction for the school

This module introduces the concepts of school leadership and management. It also introduces gender and inclusive education as crosscutting topics for this programme. We also introduce the professional standard of working with parents and the local community in school leadership.

2. Module 2: Managing the school as an organisation

This module is about creating a strategic direction for your school. This is a key skill for school leaders. Strategic direction is important because it gives guidance to all staff and stakeholders about what a school wants to achieve and what it stands for. The success of a school depends to a great deal on how capable school leaders are to clearly define where the school wants to go and what is required to get there. The strategic direction provides focus, a framework within the school operates and a source of motivation for all stakeholders.

3. Module 3: Leading learning

This module is about group dynamics, leading change, management of these various interlinked resources within the school: financial resources, human resources, physical resources, knowledge and time.

4. Module 4: Leading teaching and working with parents & the wider community

This module aims at equipping school leaders with the competences to overcome challenges related to leading learning and teaching. We focus on leading learning activities related to curriculum implementation, management of students’ behaviour, assessment, management of student data and the creation of a conducive learning environment. The unit on leading teaching emphasizes the responsibility of school leaders to support teachers in the achievement of student’s learning outcomes. The unit discusses CPD including the induction of new teachers, supervision of teaching, giving feedback, coaching and mentoring, and communities of practice.
